Autumn Wines

Autumn Wines

Cooler weather but not yet cold, the autumn wardrobe and the beautiful autumn colours. Summer bodies can also take a break, so this season is about indulgence.

Wine in Autumn wine is also a very important date on the calendar as September and October are the months when most grapes are harvested. It is always a tense moment for all winemakers as these months are key for the vintage.

Autumn symbolizes maturity, prosperity and wealth.

For this season we have decided to pick four red wines which match perfectly the characteristics of this season.

Pio Cesare Langhe Nebbiolo
The younger sibling on the bigger Barolo and Barbaresco, however a wine which punches so much above is weight. The appearance of the wine gives you the impression of a lighter wine, however Nebbiolo still give a nice robust tannin and also a high acidity. This particular Nebbiolo is also one of our favourites as it has a nice, intense fruit profile with fresh sweet tannins. Very enjoyable young but with incredible aging potential. Have a sip and close your eyes and you have autumn in a glass.

Castello di Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva
Whenever autumn starts, we always get a craving for this wine. This is probably because we tend to visit Tuscany and Castello di Querceto during this season. Surrounded by a forest, the beautiful colour palette of autumn leaves and the smell in the air around the estate whilst sipping a glass of their Chianti Classico Riserva is something we are always looking forward to. Full-bodied with ripe berry, dusty herbs, smoke and mocha notes wrapped up with mouth-watering acidity on the palate. Rich and muscular with dark berry, wild herb, minty and sagey flavours on the palate. Tannins are fine-grained.

Albert Bichot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 'Old Vines'
Pinot Noir is another variety which we love in autumn. It is quite an all-rounder and it is also our option in summer and spring but also during the winter months. However, after a very hot summer and drinking more rosé and white wines Pinot Noir is one of our first choices when we are back to enjoying reds. This Pinot Noir “Vieilles Vignes” (old vines) is crafted from grapes grown on vines that are between 25 and 30 years old and are located in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits (an amazing sight in autumn). The venerable age of the vines gives the wine its remarkably concentration, with straightforward, characteristic flavours. The wine has a flattering nose with an appealing palette of fruity aromas (blackcurrant, redcurrant, plum). Fleshy and balanced on the palate with oaked notes and a pleasing finish.

Tagaro Primitivo di Manduria 'Pinataro'
Come autumn our lifestyle changes. Saturday and Sunday lunch become a thing again, weekends are something we are all eagerly waiting and during the week we a more indoors than outdoors as opposed to summer. Primitivo needs no introduction as in the recent years it has become a local favourite. The aromas of the wine are intense and persistent with harmonic spiced notes with a soft and persistent taste with a long well-balanced tannin.
