Côte des Roses Rosé

Cote des Roses Rosé

About & Vinification

This cuvée Cote des Roses celebrates the MediterraneanArt de Vivre . The soil, very varied, is essentially made up of hard limestone of the garrigues, schistose soils but also of gravel brought by the rivers of Languedoc. The climate, warm and windy ("semi-arid Mediterranean climate with mild winter variations") favors the maturation of the grapes and their good health, while maintaining coolness thanks to the altitude and the effect of the sea, which attenuates the high summer temperatures. Its bottle is unique with a rose-shaped bottom, created by a young designer from the Ecole Boulle . It is a wine that is offered as a bouquet of Rose!

The different grape varieties are harvested separately in order to reach the optimum maturity for each. The vinification process is therefore regulated in such a way as to respect the specific characteristics of the grape varieties and the capacities of the terroirs. The harvest is mechanical with on-board sorting. The grapes are destemmed, cooled to 8°C and sent to the press to extract the rosé must. Particular attention is paid to the pressing in order to keep only the first and most qualitative juices. The juices are then settled more or less according to the desired aromatic profile. Fermentations last between 15 and more than 30 days depending on the degree of clarification and the temperature applied. The particularity of these vinifications lies in the attention paid to the color and the aromatic purity of the wines. Finally, after a light fining, the wine is bottled quite early in order to preserve the fresh and fruity character of the wines.

The Story

It was in 1975, in the vineyards of Château de Villemajouin the heart of the Corbièresthat Gérard Bertrand harvested his first grapes and discovered his passion for wine.

He perfected his apprenticeship during twelve years with his father Georges Bertrand.

We are now in the fourth generation of winegrowers, from Paule to Georges, then Gérard Bertrand and finally Emma & Mathias.

Very attached to the values of performance and excellence learned on the rugby fields, Gérard Bertrand pursues his quest to reveal the best terroirs of his region and promote them worldwide.

It was in this spirit that he took over the family business at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the Gérard Bertrand wine company in order to develop a range of wines from the South of France.

In the following years, he will buy back the Domaine de Cigalus and the Château Laville Bertrou.

Diversity

The acquisition in 2002 of Château l'Hospitaletin the natural park of La Clape, between Roman Narbonne and the Mediterranean, allowed Gérard Bertrand to acquire a new dimension.

Since then, the beautiful story continues and new nuggets from the emblematic terroirs of the Languedoc enrich the vision and diversity of Gérard Bertrand wines: Domaine de l'Aigle, Château la Sauvageonne , Château la Soujeole , Clos d'Ora , Clos du Temple, Château les Karantes Château Aigues-Vives, Cap Insula winery, Château des 2 Rocs, Château de Tarailhan and Domaine de l'Estagnère.

BIODYNAMICS

Convinced from the beginning thatviticulture in harmony with nature is the best way to reveal the typicity of a terroir and to elaborate Great WinesGérard Bertrand has been committed since 2002 to biodynamic viticulture at Cigalus. This culture allows to reinforce the balance of the vine and its environment. It reinforces the quality approach that was initiated nearly 30 years ago. Today, within the group, 300 people work to reveal the Great Wines of this region. A vineyard in excellent health, a preserved environment and magnified wines demonstrate the relevance of this approach.

The Clos D'Ora

Some parcels have been identified with a unique potential revealing the particular history of the place and the age of an exceptional terroir. They are recognized as Grands Crus of the South of France. L'Hospitalitas, La Forge, Le Viala and L'Aigle Royal are among the nuggets of the collection with the emblematic symbol : The Clos d'Ora.

In 2012, the first vintage was vinified in a humic setting on the heights of La Livinière. The Syrah and Carignan come mainly from very old vines. The Mourvèdre and Grenache were planted in 2000.

The Clos D'Ora is a wine of memory, with a strong identity. Its message: PEACE, LOVE, HARMONY.
